From Rio to Lima via Macchu Picchu

This week our own member, Peter Staples, took us on a South American journey from Rio to Lima via Macchu Picchu.  A large audience admired some wonderful photography.

We visited Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru and learned much about local customs.  Paraguay seemed to be a country to avoid but the waterfalls of Brazil, the world’s highest lake in Bolivia and the stunning Andean scenery around Macchu Picchu in Peru were especially memorable.

Peter was ably assisted by his wife Margaret.

This week Mr. Mike Bevington gave an excellent, very clear presentation about the “Yorkshire Air Ambulance” and showed a video based on the TV series Helicopter Heroes

YAA now has two helicopters which in future will both be based at BAGBY near Thirsk.  The many questions asked showed the high level of interest in the talk.

Our new Year meetings started on a lighter note as Mr. Ken Humphreys, our regular visitor from York, invited us to listen to popular tunes from musicals and to “Name That Show“.  The shows included both the familiar (eg West Side Story ) and the unfamiliar (eg. Irene).  The items were linked by Ken’s inimitable anecdotes.
