The 40th season ended with 64 members on the records.
“Calendar of Meetings” and “Welcome Back” messages were issued to all members including a second Calendar for members to pass to any interested friends/neighbours. The normal external distribution for information and advertising had as usual encompassed Harrogate Library, Harrogate Tourist Information Centre, our local Harlow News Correspondent (Harrogate Advertiser) Charlotte South and also to our Church Contact Rosalind Crew who includes details on the Harlow Hill Methodist Church Website with its links to the Nidd Valley Methodist Church.
Oct 3rd: First meeting of new season under Chairmanship of His Honour Judge Derek Clarkson Q.C. saw two new members join, Jim McPhail and Alan Barker. Charles Lubelski the next weeks Speaker attended as a guest.
Oct 17th: Four new members welcomed to Forum namely Derek Mitchell; Brian Gallagher; John Pearson and Eric Smith.
Oct 24: A further new member Vic Welborn and prospective new member attending as a guest Rob Allison.
Oct 31st: First Open Meeting of the season and also Ray Coggan Memorial Meeting. Attended by 40 members and 6 guests.
Nov 14th: Peter Wells attended as a guest.
Nov 21st: Allan Anderson and Rob Allison joined as new members and Richard Cobbald attended as a guest.
Nov 28th: Richard Cobbald added to the membership.
Dec 5th: Five members dropped from Forum Records for various reasons;
Robert Bradwell (ill-health and sadly died shortly after) ; Jeffrey Harrop (non-attendance/ contact); David Jackson (non-attendance/ contact); Mike McKevitt (ill-health); J.Graeme Smith (non-attendance due to health issues and asked to resign).
Dec 12th: An excellent Christmas Lunch at the Ascot House Hotel was attended by 68 members and guests. The after-lunch charitable collection raised £280 to be split between the Girl Guides to assist renovating Birk Crag facilities and to Harlow Hill Methodist Church where we meet.

Feb 20th:Members Morning with welcome contributions from Alan Barker; John Corby; Frank Ellis; Brian Gallagher and Gordon Percy. Dropped from membership Lou Consentine (not in country/non-attendance).Also sadly dropped from membership Gordon Richardson who has passed away.
Feb 27th: Welcomed Edward Rowe as a new member.
Dropped from membership Michael Andrews (ill-health/other commitments) and Richard Pugh (resigned).
Mar 6th: Dropped from membership Ken Roberts (ill-health).
Mar 27: Third Open Meeting of season saw a late cancellation and Geoff Queen stepped in at short notice with his ” Great Britain Quiz.
Apr 24: 41st A.G.M. held.
May 23: A party of 20 members and guests entertained by John and Margaret Taylor at a coffee morning at Hollins Hall.
Season concludes with 64 members registered on records.

Outgoing Chairman His Honour Judge Derek Clarkson opened the meeting by thanking all officers and members for their support in contributing to another successful season and the pride we should have and share about our group.
The Forum President Rev. Christine Gillespie took the chair for the rest of the meeting.
Minutes of Last A.G.M.: Agreed as a correct record, approved by members and signed by the Chairperson as confirmation.
No Matters Arising raised.
Chairperson’s Remarks: Christine paid her tribute to the Forum and stressed the importance of continuing to give a positive and good impression to all those it comes into contact with.
General Secretary’s Report: 12 new members in during season; 12 members dropped from membership for various reasons with registered members continuing at 64. Thanks to outgoing Chairman Derek for his amusing and good-natured stewardship during the last season.
Programme Secretary’s Report: High level attendances continued over from previous season (average 38) and excellent contribution from members to programme (5 talks given).
Disappointment expressed by John over a couple of talks with one being a late cancellation.
Advised that next season , his 12th as Programme Secretary, will be his last.
Treasurer’s Report: Indicative Accounts prepared and circulated. Finances remain healthy and a 3O pound discrepancy in figures explained by unpresented cheque. Church Collection of 140 pounds mentioned. Continuing 500 pound plus balance continues to be maintained to cover contingencies.
Proposals: Fees and Subscriptions to remain unchanged for another year…agreed by meeting.
Church Donation of 870 pounds ..agreed by meeting unanimously.
Secretaries Honorariums totalling 100 pounds agreed by meeting unanimously.
Terry Byrne raised issue of defibrillator for Church. Treasurer Roy and Chairperson Christine explained background and costs involved which also covered possibility or otherwise of blind in the church. Principle of defibrillator at Church o.k. but funds needed to be raised and permission given to General Secretary to approach local businesses on the Hill for support and pledges during the summer recess.
Deceased Members: Three members and one former member had passed away during the last season and the Chairperson asked attendees to stand and observe a period of silence in remembrance.
Election of Officers for 2018/2019:
Vacancies for Second Vice Chairman (to be Chairman in 2020/2021) and for a further volunteer in the Catering Team.
Malcolm Wood gave a positive and encouraging overview of the Chairman’s role, drawing on his own experiences, what it would involve and the support available.
Longer term a candidate to replace John Taylor as Programme Secretary will be required for 2019/2020.

Proposal from Neil Ramshaw that next season sees the final Ray Coggan Memorial Meeting. Reasons given and some discussion … agreed by meeting.
Mike South discussed merits of using Church room when appropriate as opposed to normal meeting room. Again some discussion and different views from floor but general support for the proposition to use the Church room when deemed appropriate.
Tom Snellig raised issue of increasing Open Meetings each season to four. This received support and some concern from the floor but the meeting agreed that in future the President’s Morning would become an Open Meeting leaving the Programme Secretary with the normal three to identify.
Chairperson Christine Gillespie brought the meeting to a close.

I have posted a summary of the A.G.M. 2017 held on April 25th and also the Forum Annals for 2016/2017 for member’s attention.
The 39th season ended with 61 members on the records. During the close season Dave Essam left us due to a move to Beverley and our Ruby (40th) season started with 60 members registered.

Oct 4th: Richard Pugh was our first new member of the season.

Nov 1st: The first special event of our 40th Anniversary season saw us welcome and be entertained by the Daytones Barbershop Group.
Nov 15th: Our occasional guest visitor Roger Howell attended this meeting.
Nov 29th: Ken Selkirk dropped from membership due to ill-health.
Nov 29th: First Open Meeting of the 40th Season took place. 38 members and 9 lady guests in attendance.
Dec 13th: 60 Members and Guests attended an excellent Christmas Lunch at The Ascot House Hotel. A charitable collection raised £266-50 which would be split between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and St. Michael’s Hospice.
In a special presentation Programme Secretary John Taylor was awarded an Honorary Life Membership to overwhelming acclaim from those in attendance.

Jan 17th: Second Open Meeting of the season and Ray Coggan Memorial Meeting with 36 members and 9 lady guests in attendance. Alun Pugh returned to complete his talk on “A Journey Along The Leeds–Liverpool Canal Part Two”.
Jan 24th: Acknowledgement received from St. Michael’s Hospice re Xmas Charity donation….sent initially to Harrogate Men’s Forum!!

Feb 7th: John Taylor gives a potted history of Forum in his talk “Forty Years On” part of the Anniversary Programme.
Feb 14th: Third Open Meeting of the season with record attendance of fifty-one members and guests. (forty members plus eleven lady guests)
Feb 21st: Members Morning with excellent contributions from Mike Tutt; Richard Wright; Mike Cochrane and Terry Byrne.
Mar 21st: New member Keith Acum adds to our numbers.
April 4th: 40th Anniversary Lecture by Malcolm Neesam. (Samson Fox)
Apr 25th: 40th A.G.M. held.
May 2nd: 40th Anniversary Lunch at the Ascot House Hotel. 48 in attendance.

Outgoing Chairman Peter Staples opened the meeting expressing his thanks to members for their support during the year and then handed control of the proceedings to President Reverend Christine Gillespie.

GENERAL SECRETARY’S REPORT: At close of previous season (2015/2016) 61 members were registered on Forum records.
–Dave Essam left us during the summer recess.
—5 new members joined during the last season.
—1 member left our database as he could no longer attend.
At the close of the season (2016/2017) 64 members were left recorded on our books although there are a number we are unlikely to see again due to age/ infirmity.
Continued publicity through Harrogate Advertiser/ Church Website Links, Harrogate Library and Tourist Information Centre as well as our own Website. Personal member advocacy still best recruiter and two Programme of Meeting cards issued to help facilitate this.
PROGRAMME SECRETARY’S REPORT: Another year of strong attendances and an all time record at February 14th Open Meeting of 51. Charitable Donations totalled an impressive £645.
Special Anniversary events were well supported– Daytones Group and Malcolm Neesam and good reception afforded to Professor Dixon (Ilkley Water Cure) and Michael Duncombe (Musical Memories of the 50’s and 60’s). Open Meetings and Members Morning also well established and received.
Thanks to all Tuesday Helpers and Officers and appreciative of Honorary Life Membership Award.
New Season commences Tuesday October 3rd 2017.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Very adequate Bank Balance of around £495 going into new season.
Donation to Church for room usage proposed and agreed at £850.
Secretarial Honorariums (2) amounting to £100 proposed and agreed.
No increase in fees/subs in next season
Discussion re funding defibrillator for Church Premises— to be agreed by Church and Forum Members to consider how we can support if it goes ahead.

—41st Season of Harlow Men’s Forum to commence Tuesday October 3rd 10a.m. for 1030a.m.
The 38th season ended with 63 members registered on Forum records. During the close season the Forum was sorry to hear of the death of Honorary Life Member Reg Jackson at the great age of 101 years and 9 months. A founder member of the Forum (38 years membership), twice Chairman and giver of twenty-six (official) talks. Whilst sad to record his passing he was the oldest member ever of the Forum and had demonstrated a remarkably well lived life when attending the Forum in October 2013 in celebration of his centenary year and he will be remembered fondly by Forum members.
The revised membership total for the start of the 39th season was therefore 62 members.

Oct 20th: meeting with a charity presentation re: St. Michael’s Hospice and a total amount of £118–50 collected for them.
Nov 3rd: The popular and now annual Members’ Morning –5 Speakers from amongst the membership.
Nov 10th: new member Leslie Parkes joins us.
Nov 17th: first Open Meeting of the season saw eight lady guests bolster attendance to a very healthy forty-one which also include new member Peter Wood
Dec 8th: this meeting saw a record attendance of fifty members.
Dec 15th: a very successful Christmas Lunch at Ascot House Hotel with another record attendance of seventy-one members and guests. The Charitable Collection of £370 was also an all time high and would be passed to a fellow community association Harrogate 20th Scout Group who are raising funds to provide a new Scout Hut.

Mar 22nd: John Stott removed from membership…no longer attending.
Apr 12th:Philip Sladdin removed from membership due to ill-health.
Apr 19th:Dennis Jennings removed from membership as moving to Bakewell.
April 25th: Death of Ken Lupton advised.
April 26th: A.G.M. Informed of recent death of former member Stuart Metcalfe. Season concludes with 61 members registered on Forum Records.

CHAIRMAN& GEN. SECRETARY REPORT: Chairman Neil Ramshaw thanked officers and members for their support and for making his year as Chairman a pleasant experience.
At the close of the previous season 63 members on Forum Records were reduced to 62 at the start of the 39th season due to Reg Jackson’s death during the summer.

—-8 members were removed from membership which sadly included two further deaths. (Malcolm Rawdon and Ken Lupton)
At the close of the season (26/4/2016) 61 members were registered on Forum Records.
Continuing publicity through Harrogate Advertiser/Church Website Links/Harrogate Library and Tourist Information Centre along with our own Website. Advocacy from Members is still our best recruiting agent.
PROGRAMME SECRETARY’S REPORT: Attendance Records continue to be broken with an average weekly attendance of 38. Highest attendance of 50 at an all male meeting; record numbers of “guests” at an Open Meeting; biggest Christmas Lunch gathering of 70 and record Charitable Lunch Collection there of £370.
Interesting talks from regular and new Speakers. Major contributions from our own members including Richard Wright (Gambia); David Siddans (Traffic Jams) and Judge Derek Clarkson (Curiosities) not forgetting John Taylor who shared some recollections of Schooldays. Another successful Members’ Morning with 5 Speakers providing eclectic entertainment and our annual President’s Morning providing enjoyable education.
Thanks to all Tuesday Helpers, Officers and not least Members for attendance and friendly attitude which makes Harlow Men’s Forum so welcoming.
Charitable Donations amounted to £878-80 made up of £250 to various Speakers who fund their own good causes; £370 collected at Christmas Lunch for 20th Harrogate Scout Group and three Meeting Collections. (St. Michael’s Hospice; John Shackleton–Eastern Europe Ambulance and R.N.L.I.)
TREASURER’S REPORT: Very healthy Bank Balance going forward–£659-49 (confirmed by Treasurer after meeting).
Donation to Church for room usage proposed and agreed at £825.
Further Donation of £100 proposed and agreed to Church for rear porch refurbishment work.

40th Season of Harlow Men’s Forum will open on Tuesday October 4th at 10a.m. for 1030 a.m.

The 38th season opened with 60 members registered on Forum records. Forum members had been saddened to learn of the death of Bill Blades in June–Bill had been a recent Chairman of the Forum and a stalwart in the kitchen team and would be much missed.

October 7th: The first meeting of the season saw two new members join… Mike Tutt and Jim Wilson.
October 14th: A further new member enrolled … George Thomas.
October 28th: Two new members joined us … Les Simpson and Geoff Harrop. This was also the ever popular “Members Morning” with contributions from John Taylor, Richard Wright, Ken Lupton, Roy Smith and Malcolm Wood.
November 11th: The Forum met on Remembrance Day and observed a period of silence in respect to those who fell in the hostilities.
November 18th: Two new members added to the books … John Stott and Fred Spurrier. This meeting saw 44 attendees … a record for an all male audience!!
November 25th: Another new member Michael Hawkins joined us. This was an Open Meeting with seven lady guests in attendance. It also saw Angela Henson a regular and popular travel speaker at the Forum over the years give her last talk to us before retiring.
December 9th: New member Ron Colquitt increased our numbers.
December 16th: Christmas Lunch at the Ascot House Hotel with a record fifty-nine members and guests attending and where our new President Reverend Christine Gillespie attended her first Forum event. Members and guests generously contributed to an all time high charitable collection of £300 which was to be split between Harrogate Homeless Project, Solar Aid to provide solar lamps for African children and to help finance the studies of a Tanzanian girl.
January 6th: The New Year started with a further new member to the assembly … David Siddans.Written acknowledgements had been received from the charities supported by the Christmas Lunch collection. The Forum considered and agreed in principle to the purchase of a digital projector with the possibility of grant support.
January 13th: Sadly the death was reported of long-standing Forum Member Alan Norton. A new member Graham Smith signed up. Seven members were removed from membership for various valid reasons.
January 20th: Open Meeting and “The Ray Coggan Memorial Meeting” to which six lady guests were in attendance.
February 3rd: A new member Allan Ridley was added. One member removed from membership. A visitor in attendance Roger Howell.
February 17th: A visitor Peter Wells was welcomed to this meeting.
February 24th: President’s Morning … Reverend Christine Gillespie makes her debut appearance at the Forum.
March 10th: Forum’s 1000th Meeting and in attendance the Mayor of Harrogate Councillor Jim Clark who also is our local Council representative.
March 17th: Church Jumble Sale on 28th supported by member donations.
March 24th: Open Meeting which saw record member audience and record overall attendance.(48)
April 14th: New member Dennis Jennings joins Forum numbers.
April 21st: One member dropped from records. Last normal meeting of season with Professor Martin Curzon making a welcome return as Speaker.
April 28th: A.G.M. and season concludes with 63 members registered on Forum records
